Smyrna Fire Hall came in hot on March 27th, and honestly, the room felt like it had been preheated to “party” before the doors even opened. Maybe it was the 138 players, maybe it was the 30% brand‑new faces, or maybe it was the fact that 40 tickets sold in the final 18 hours, which is the kind of last‑minute surge that makes a host stare at the ticket dashboard like it’s a stock ticker 📈. Whatever the reason, the vibe was electric before Round One even started.
We kicked things off in the 1960s, where “Do Wah Diddy” and “Soul Man” got the early achievers landing quick hits like they’d been stretching backstage. The room had that warm, “oh yeah, this is gonna be a night” glow.
Round Two’s April Fools theme brought out the playful chaos, with Victoria L, Kai B, Chris M, Ashley S, and Bob Mc all dabbing away like they were racing each other. Beth B, who apparently decided tonight was her night, kept popping up like a whack‑a‑mole. “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” hit the room like a group hug, and by the time Syd joined the achiever list, the whole place was singing like they’d rehearsed it all in the parking lot. And speaking of April Fools, next month’s Art Bonus is to draw an April Shower on your Round 2 card, however that looks in your world... literal, poetic, chaotic, or meteorological. Bring it to life and turn it in whether you bingo or not, when Round 2 is over.
Then came the 80s, and Round Three was basically a neon‑colored sprint. Ryder nailed a bingo in this round but hen slipped behind the wheel of a Delorean, failing to return back to the present to collect on his win! When “Hey Mickey” dropped, the room erupted into a full‑volume chant that probably startled the firefighters in the next bay 🚒. Even Skylar got swept up in the wave, and she wouldn't be born for another 4 or 5 decades!
Round Four’s Wedding Bangers turned the Fire Hall into a reception dance floor without the stress of seating charts and bridesmaid dresses. Allison grabbed an early hit but did most of her dancing internally. Most. “Yeah!” turned the room into a joyful, rhythmic mess.
We wrapped with 1970s Part 1, where Kim F kicked things off. Jocelyn L — who was also apparently on a personal mission tonight, trying to WIN WIN WIN — added yet another spot on the wheel. By the time Beth E and Deb L closed the round, the room felt like it had been dipped in warm vinyl and good memories, which beats the tarring and feathering from last month by a disco version.
And then came the Winner's Wheel — glorious, impartial, chaotic, beloved. It handed out gift cards and free entries like a benevolent trickster god: Teri L and Kim R snagged free entries, Mike III and Neal D grabbed $10s, Anthony R and Deb L walked away with $15s, Donna A scored a $25 Lowe’s card, and Dolla Bill & Harlow strutted out with Chili’s money. Chris R must've been a passenger in that Delorean with Ryder but was busy looking up the difference between "density" and "destiny." No shade, just a gentle reminder that the Wheel rewards those who stay to the end 😉.
